Author Visits and Events

Let Susan Wroble inspire your students, sharing the wonder of science and the delight of writing. Presentations are tailored to your specific grade levels.

Write On with Nonfiction! Nonfiction can incorporate all the elements of great writing—elements like plot, theme, character arc and voice… The differences? Everything is true—and students can focus on writing about the things they love. This interactive presentation focuses on helping students capture ideas, narrow their approach, and find sources as they learn to put themselves into their writing.

Steaming into Literacy: Higher level literacy skills include understanding text structures—and expository nonfiction picture books are the key to gaining that skill. In this interactive workshop, students are introduced to core text structures, analyze the text structures of incredible picture books, and determine the best text structure for their own writing projects.

Researching the Science: Animal Therapy: Do you think that hospitals has therapy dogs only to make people smile? Think again! Science shows that petting an animal lowers stress chemicals in your body, and that aids in healing. In this fascinating presentation, students are given real-life scientific questions, and are led through a brainstorming session to determine how they might design a research study to find the answers.

Engineering for Climate Change: Engineering—it’s for everyone! This hopeful presentation includes short reading from USING ENGINEERING TO FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE, a hands-on activity focusing on greenhouse gases, and a discussion of ways people can work to mitigate the climate chaos.

Confused by Stories of Pigs on Planes? Free presentation about the laws governing service, therapy and emotional support animals. Great for scout groups, libraries, communities…
