Neurodiversity & 2E

Since 2007, I have led a monthly Denver-area support group for parents, teachers, and caregivers of Twice-Exceptional children—children who are highly or profoundly gifted and have multiple learning differences. The group has been going for so long that the original children are now adults. Most of our kids are on the autism spectrum, some have a laundry list of diagnoses, and others fall into that category of “quirky wiring.”

The Denver 2E Group meets virtually on the 2nd Wednesdays at 11:30. The basic format is that the attendees discuss their current challenge. If others have suggestions, they offer them. Common topics of discussion include mental health, school accommodations, and resources.

If you are interested in attending, please use the contact form above and request the 2E meeting link.

We highly recommend WrightsLaw books and training, especially From Emotions to Advocacy. We also recommend that you download and study the Dr. John Seaman document entitled “Cognitive and Academic Interventions” before all meetings. It provides lists of accommodations for various learning differences—and knowing what to ask for can make an immense difference for your child. It is an old document, and the link on the web frequently changes, so search by the title and John Seaman.

Our group maintains a Denver-area resource list of professionals that we have found especially helpful in supporting our kids. In addition, we have two long-time members who also work in the field professionally. Dr. Susan Blumberg and Jen Newton are professionals in their fields who have also been long-time members of the group as parents of 2E kids. We know that working with them can be transformative.
